The Community Learning and Youth Transformation Center is a bold commitment to inclusive and sustainable education. More than a structure, it is a safe, culturally responsive learning space equipped with books, toys, school supplies, charts, mats, blackboards, tables, and chairs—resources that inspire curiosity and dignity. A weekly reading program nurtures foundational literacy, while trained youth peer tutors take the lead in teaching their younger siblings, making education communal and sustainable. The initiative’s goals mirror the JCI Mission to empower young people for positive change: Literacy development through structured “Pabasa” and comprehension- building activities Cultural pride and identity by honoring the Sama Bajau’s values, language, and traditions Youth leadership through confidence-building and tutoring workshops Community engagement via dialogues with parents and leaders, shaping localized and relevant content Curriculum contextualization, co-developed with Department of Education Surigao City and City Social Welfare and Development Office, ensuring inclusivity and age-appropriateness This is not just about education. This is a movement—where books open doors, voices find purpose, and leaders rise from within their own community.
