Color Me Run for Pride: A Successful Collaboration for a Cause by JCI Surigao North, BarrCamp Surigao, and CSWDO Surigao City

Color Me Run for Pride in partnership with BarrCamp Surigao and JCI Surigao North-Batch Nexus was held on June 1, 2025 at the City Hall Compound, Surigao City, Surigao del Norte. A partnered Fundraising project by the City Social Welfare and Development Office-Surigao City, BarrCamp Surigao, and JCI Surigao North with our Baby Jaycees Batch Nexus, was successfully implemented during the first day of June 2025. The project aimed to raise funds for upcoming activities of the City Social Welfare and Development Office in connection with the Pride Month Celebration and the community project of the JCI Surigao North.
The combined dedication, passion, active participation, and collaboration of the City Social Welfare and Development Office staff, BarrCamp Surigao members, and JCI Surigao North’s members have played a crucial role in bringing this project to life.
Sincere gratitude to the City Social Welfare and Development Office staff, led by CSWD Officer Ms. Lenie S. Liray, RSW JD; the City General Services Office, headed by OIC Engr. Dionisio N. Boquid Jr.; the City Engineering Office, led by Engr. Genevieve B. Pontevedra; and BarrCamp Surigao, under the leadership of BarrCamp Chief Joseph Rudyard Malinao. Your time, effort, and unwavering support are truly appreciated.

Strengthening the House of the North: A General Membership Meeting Summary

The May 24, 2025 General Membership Meeting (GMM) of JCI Surigao North, led by 2025 LO President Atty. Krystel Grace Calderon-Buniel, marked a significant milestone for our organization. Held at the Kalipayan CJ Beach Resort, Looc, Surigao City, the event successfully inducted the members and Baby Jaycees of Batch Apex and Batch Nexus, formally welcoming them into the House of the North. This induction ceremony was a key component of the GMM, signifying the growth and expansion of our chapter. The event also provided an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our existing members and to formally recognize the dedication and commitment of our newest recruits. The atmosphere was one of celebration and shared purpose. In addition to the induction, a valuable JCI Protocol training was conducted, led by the distinguished and esteemed JCI Senator Richmond Anthony Riain Alfonso.
Following the formal proceedings of the GMM, including the training session, a productive fellowship session allowed members to connect on a more personal level. This gathering fostered collaboration, strengthened relationships, and provided a platform for brainstorming future projects and initiatives. The collaborative spirit demonstrated during this fellowship session, building upon the insights gained from the training, underscored the strength of our chapter and our shared commitment to building better communities. The discussions and connections made during this time, informed by JCI Senator Riain’s expertise, will undoubtedly contribute to our future success and impact. We are grateful for the participation of all members who attended and extend our sincere thanks to JCI Senator Riain Alfonso for his valuable contribution.

Project Proposal: Writing and Presentation Workshop

JCI Surigao North Empowers Youth Through Project Proposal Workshop

JCI Surigao North proudly partnered with the City Government of Surigao’s Local Youth Development Office (LYDO) and Northeastern Mindanao Colleges (NEMCO) for the successful Batang Surigaonon Youthniversity: Class 005! On May 20, 2025, we empowered young Surigaonons with invaluable skills in project proposal writing and presentation at the Brgy. Washington Gymnasium. JCI Senator Richmond Anthony Riain Alfonso led the workshop, sharing his expertise in crafting impactful proposals that address community needs. The participants, a dynamic mix of Batang Surigaonon Youth Members, JJC Surigao Ironwood, City Scholars, and NEMCO students, collaborated to develop and present their own project proposals, showcasing their newly acquired skills.
This initiative underscores JCI Surigao North’s dedication to youth development and community empowerment. We extend our gratitude to LYDO, NEMCO, SK Federated President Jenelyn Edulzura for their invaluable contributions to this session. The certificates awarded to the participants symbolize not just completion, but the beginning of their journey as proactive, goal-oriented leaders, ready to make a positive impact on their communities. We look forward to supporting these young changemakers in their future endeavors!

JCI Surigao North Extends Support to Fire-Affected Families

OPLAN KAAGAPAY: Clothing and Water Assistance for M. Ortiz (Riveside) Fire Victims

A devastating fire on May 14, 2025 at 4:50 AM, impacted 43 families on M. Ortiz corner Borja Street (Riverside), Brgy, Washington Surigao City, displacing 70 individuals, including 30 students. In response to this tragedy, JCI Surigao North immediately mobilized to offer support.
Collaborating with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), and the Provincial Government of Surigao del Norte, JCI Surigao North provided essential relief. At the temporary evacuation center established at Brgy. Washington Gym, we distributed 6 sacks of gently used and pre-owned clothing and 2 boxes of Northern Water. This contribution aimed to address the immediate needs of those affected by the fire.
JCI Surigao North, led by 2025 LO President Atty. Krystel Grace Calderon-Buniel, remains committed to assisting these families as they navigate the challenging recovery process. We extend our heartfelt sympathy and pledge continued support in their rebuilding efforts.

JCI Surigao North Equips Future Engineers with Career-Ready Skills in BSCE Professional Development Seminar

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) Students gear up for the Future through Professional Development Seminar

In a bid to strengthen their career readiness, the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) students of Surigao del Norte State University recently held a Professional Development Seminar titled “Crafting Effective Business Proposals and Excelling Job Interviews.” The event aimed to enhance the competencies of future engineers in preparing compelling business proposals and handling job interviews with confidence and professionalism—skills deemed essential as they transition into the workforce.
Spearheaded by the BSCE student body, the seminar featured a series of talks delivered by invited speakers from JCI Surigao North and the Human Resource and Development Management Office (HRDMO) of Surigao City. The student organization extended their invitation through JCI Surigao North Local Organization President, Atty. Krystel Grace Calderon-Buniel, who endorsed the activity as part of their youth empowerment initiatives.
Among the key speakers was Kenn Edgar Parojinog, JCI Surigao North’s Vice President for Business, who shared practical strategies and structural insights in his session on “Crafting Effective Business Proposals.” Meanwhile, JCI Vice President for Internationalism Shepheionn Carutcho delivered an inspiring talk titled “Blueprint for Growth: A Guide to Becoming a Better Engineer,” emphasizing both technical development and personal leadership. Completing the lineup was Ms. Jahra Cabana from Surigao City HRDMO, who gave an insightful session on “Excelling in Job Interviews,” equipping students with tips on professional presence and interview preparation.
The seminar served not only as a learning platform but also as a meaningful collaboration between academic institutions, government offices, and youth organizations committed to molding capable, confident, and career-ready graduates.

JCI Surigao North was proud to support the Municipality of Sison’s 24K Karavan: Serbisyong may K by providing much-needed hydration through our Northern Water in partnership with Nature’s Spring Water (part of the NorthBiz Flagship Program). We distributed bottled water, ensuring residents had access to clean, refreshing hydration during this essential community event.
This small contribution helped ensure the comfort and well-being of the many residents who attended, making a positive impact on the overall success of the event.
