A group of elementary students from Surigao City Special Science Elementary School (SCSSES) together with their teacher and coach, Ms. Berna Jane Ercillo, recently had the opportunity to interview JCI Surigao North’s 2025 Local President, Atty. Krystel Grace L. Calderon – Buniel, gaining valuable experience and insight into youth empowerment programs. The interview, a key component of their Collaborative Desktop Publishing training, showcased the students’ developing journalistic skills and their commitment to community engagement.
For the past year, according to Ms. Ercillo, these young journalists have been honing their interviewing techniques through a series of mini press conferences, diligently gathering data and refining their communication abilities. Their choice of JCI Surigao North as their interview subject reflects the organization’s significant impact on local young learners and the broader community.
This collaboration between the Surigao City Special Science ES and JCI Surigao North exemplifies a successful partnership that benefits both students and the community at large. The interview itself promises to be a rich resource, highlighting JCI Surigao North’s impactful initiatives and providing a platform for the students to demonstrate their growing expertise in journalism. The experience serves as a valuable learning opportunity, equipping these young individuals with essential skills for future success while simultaneously promoting awareness of the vital work being done by JCI Surigao North. The resulting article, produced as part of their Collaborative Desktop Publishing curriculum, will undoubtedly serve as a testament to their hard work and dedication.
