Pinay Power Advocacy Series Concludes with Empowering Talk on Women’s Rights

In celebration of Women’s Month, JCI Surigao North, in partnership with Globalport Surigao Terminal Inc., held the final session of the Pinay Power Advocacy Series on March 21, 2025, at the Eva Macapagal Passenger Terminal. The session focused on Women’s Rights in the Philippines, highlighting the key features of the Magna Carta of Women and its relevance in today’s workplace and society.
The discussion was led by JCI Surigao North 2025 LO President, Atty. Krystel Grace L. Calderon – Buniel, and attended by 18 female employees of Globalport Surigao. The session created a safe space for learning and sharing—where participants not only listened but also asked thoughtful questions, shared personal insights, and even related real-life stories that made the topic even more relatable and relevant.
The activity reflects JCI Surigao North’s advocacy to bring conversations on women’s rights closer to the community and Globalport Surigao’s continued efforts to foster a more inclusive, informed, and empowered workplace.

In celebration of Women’s Month, JCI Surigao North in partnership with Globalport Surigao Terminal Inc., successfully conducted the Safe Spaces Act: Gender Equality in the Workplace Seminar under the Pinay Power Advocacy Series.
With 18 empowered women in attendance, the session provided valuable insights on workplace inclusivity, gender-based protections, and legal safeguards under RA 11313 (Safe Spaces Act). Led by Atty. Princess Jezrael A. Frondozo, 2025 LO Legal Counsel, the discussion emphasized the importance of fostering a safe, respectful, and harassment-free environment for all.
This initiative reflects JCI Surigao North’s advocacy for women empowerment, and Globalport Surigao Terminal Inc.’s commitment to gender inclusivity, ensuring that every workplace becomes a safe space for women to thrive.

SCSSES Students Interview JCI Surigao North Leader

A group of elementary students from Surigao City Special Science Elementary School (SCSSES) together with their teacher and coach, Ms. Berna Jane Ercillo, recently had the opportunity to interview JCI Surigao North’s 2025 Local President, Atty. Krystel Grace L. Calderon – Buniel, gaining valuable experience and insight into youth empowerment programs. The interview, a key component of their Collaborative Desktop Publishing training, showcased the students’ developing journalistic skills and their commitment to community engagement.
For the past year, according to Ms. Ercillo, these young journalists have been honing their interviewing techniques through a series of mini press conferences, diligently gathering data and refining their communication abilities. Their choice of JCI Surigao North as their interview subject reflects the organization’s significant impact on local young learners and the broader community.
This collaboration between the Surigao City Special Science ES and JCI Surigao North exemplifies a successful partnership that benefits both students and the community at large. The interview itself promises to be a rich resource, highlighting JCI Surigao North’s impactful initiatives and providing a platform for the students to demonstrate their growing expertise in journalism. The experience serves as a valuable learning opportunity, equipping these young individuals with essential skills for future success while simultaneously promoting awareness of the vital work being done by JCI Surigao North. The resulting article, produced as part of their Collaborative Desktop Publishing curriculum, will undoubtedly serve as a testament to their hard work and dedication.

Empowering Every Woman: JCI Surigao North Leads Women’s Month Initiative at BJMP

JCI Surigao North is proud to celebrate Women’s Month by embracing gender equality and inclusion with our “Embracing Gender Equality and Inclusion for Women Deprived of Liberty” Project, with Project Chair 2025 Legal Counsel Atty. Princess Jezrael A. Frondozo and Co-Project Chair 2023 LSDD Jurel E. Alban, in partnership with JCI Surigao Wensie and BJMP Surigao del Norte. We believe that every woman deserves to feel empowered and valued, regardless of their circumstances. This month, we are honored to provide essential services, including dental care, haircuts, and hygiene kits, to women deprived of liberty, demonstrating our commitment to their well-being and dignity.
