JCI Surigao Chapters Honor Young Changemakers at 2024 Youth Leadership Excellence Awards

June 4, 2024, in support of the National Project of JCI Philippines, JCI Surigao North together with JCI Surigao Nickel and JCI Surigao Wensie proudly conducted the Youth Leadership Excellence Award (YLEA) to celebrate the outstanding achievements of young leaders in our community. This event aimed to recognize students from Elementary and High School from both public and private schools who show extraordinary skills both academically and in extra curricular activities.
We’re honored to have our very own 2024 Executive Vice President, Krystel Grace Calderon-Buniel, as our inspiring Guest Speaker. Also present were JCI Surigao North’s 2023 VP for Internationalism Jemima S. Plaza, who serves as the 2024 Regional Chair for YLEA and 2024 JCI Surigao Wensie LO President Viera May P. Ordiz. We would also like to thank our sponsors: Palawan Pawnshop, Palawan Pay and also the Province of Surigao del Norte, headed by our Provincial Governor Robert Lyndon S. Barbers for the venue of the event.

This year’s festival was not only a celebration of our rich cultural heritage but also an opportunity for us to embody the JCI mission—engaging young people to create positive change.
Special thanks to the organizers of this events, Province of Surigao del Norte Gov. Lyndon Barbers, for creating a platform that celebrates not only the past and present but also inspires the future of Surigaonons, and of course, for the mouth-watering seafood for which our province is famous. We are honored to have been a part of this fantastic event and are excited about the opportunities it has opened up for further collaboration and community engagement.

2nd Regional Council Meeting

JCI Surigao North Joins 2nd Regional Council Meeting in Bukidnon, Strengthening Unity and Community Impact Across Northern Mindanao

JCI Surigao North’s 2024 LO President Eric Libay attendance at the 2nd Regional Council Meeting in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon on May 4, 2024, was marked by a spirit of collaboration and dedication to community service. 2-Day Technology Technical Seminar

Technology Training on Generative Artificial Intelligence for Executives and Technopreneurs

Surigao City witnessed a landmark event on April 25-26, 2024, as JCI Surigao North led by 2024 LO President Eric M. Libay together with Project Chair Mariel Makinano, in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology – Surigao del Norte (DOST-SDN), DOST Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI), and the Provincial Government of Surigao del Norte (PLGU-SDN), successfully hosted a 2-Day Technology Training on Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Executives and Technopreneurs. With 𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐲 (𝟖𝟎) 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 from 𝐯𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲, the event unfolded at the Provincial Research, Innovation, and Science Museum (PRISM), 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐈 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧.
Engr. Eduardo D. Piedad, Jr., an esteemed AI Expert and S&T Fellow of the DOST-ASTI, spearheaded the enlightening sessions. His expertise illuminated the landscape of AI systems, elucidating their functionalities and real-world applications. Participants were immersed in discussions revolving around the latest trends in AI, including breakthroughs and emerging technologies. Moreover, ethical considerations and regulatory frameworks governing AI development and deployment were meticulously examined, fostering a culture of responsible AI utilization among attendees.
The heart of the event lay in exploring generative AI technologies, which hold immense potential for revolutionizing content creation, problem-solving, and creativity across diverse sectors. Engr. Piedad showcased a spectrum of generative AI tools such as chatbots, content creation platforms, and grammar checkers. Through hands-on activities and live demonstrations, participants gained practical insights into the capabilities of these tools, ranging from video editing and image generation to voice and music synthesis. Discussions revolved around harnessing these technologies effectively, emphasizing practical applications and best practices for seamless integration into organizational workflows.
One of the highlights of the training was on the AI projects and initiatives spearheaded by DOST ASTI. Engr. Piedad presented an array of impactful projects like ASTI-ALaM, iTANONG, GUL.AI, and SaqFeeder, each showcasing the transformative potential of AI in addressing real-world challenges. Additionally, initiatives such as HR Lite, Dataprotect, MetBuoy+, and STRIIIDER underscored the breadth and depth of AI applications and research at DOST ASTI, inspiring participants to explore innovative avenues within their own organizations.
Generative AI stands as a frontier of innovation, offering unparalleled opportunities for organizations to enhance productivity, drive creativity, and unlock new pathways to success. The specialized training provided executives and technopreneurs with the requisite knowledge and tools to harness generative AI effectively, empowering them to navigate the ever-evolving technological landscape with confidence and foresight. By embracing AI-driven innovation, participants are poised to stay competitive, foster innovation, and spearhead transformative change within their communities.

Day 7: Joint GMM & Culmination Program

JCI Week 2024 has come to a close with an incredible finale on Day 7, as JCI Surigao North, JCI Surigao Nickel, and JCI Surigao Wensie joined forces for the Joint General Membership Meeting and Culmination Program. It was a momentous occasion where these three chapters came together to reflect on their remarkable achievements throughout the week. The meeting provided a platform for members to share their experiences, exchange ideas, and strengthen their bonds of friendship. The Culmination Program was a celebration, showcasing the impact JCI has made in various communities and highlighting the outstanding projects undertaken throughout the week.
