JCI Surigao North recently welcomed a new wave of passionate individuals to our organization. On November 30th, 2024, we hosted the Opportunity to Impact: Orientation Course for New Members, a dynamic program designed to ignite their passion for leadership and community service. Led by our inspiring 2025 LO President, Atty. Krystel Grace L. Calderon – Buniel, with her is our 2025 Executive Vice President Jemima S. Plaza as our Featured Speakers, the session at Maradjaw Events Center equipped our baby Jaycees with the knowledge, skills, and connections to make a meaningful difference in our community.
We’re thrilled to see our new members embark on their journey of leadership and service with JCI Surigao North! JCI Surigao North Joins Regional Council Meeting in CDO, Welcomes New RVP David Emmanuel Piol

JCI Surigao North, led by 2025 LO President Atty. Krystel Grace Calderon Buniel and Immediate Past President – 2025 Regional Secretary Eric M. Libay, proudly attended the Special Regional Council Meeting in Cagayan de Oro City on December 15, 2024, witnessing the transition of leadership from outgoing Regional Vice President Ramon Isagani Bautista III to incoming Regional Vice President David Emmanuel Piol.
This significant event provided a platform for collaboration and strategic planning, setting the stage for a successful year ahead under the guidance of the new leadership.
The meeting was made even more significant by the presence of esteemed JCI leaders, NP Felix Venson Chua III, AVP Charinna Barro-Quilaneta, the Presidents of Sambisig and Likhayan, and distinguished past leaders, Past RVP Deo Anthony Alcudia and Past AVP Jason Alcudia, join us for this momentous occasion. Their presence underscored the importance of collaboration and leadership within Northern Mindanao, inspiring us all to continue working towards a brighter future.

These young minds, fueled by passion and dedication, rose up to the challenge, showcasing their critical thinking and eloquent expression.

Young Voices Rise: Batang Surigaonon Debate Tournament 2024 Kicks Off with Passion and Purpose

The air filled with anticipation as the first day of the Batang Surigaonon Debate Tournament 2024 kicked off on December 7, 2024. Young minds from across Surigao sharpened their wits and honed their arguments, ready to showcase their skills on the debate stage. Led by 2025 LO President Atty. Krystel Grace L. Calderon – Buniel, JCI Surigao North, in partnership with the City Government of Surigao, Local Youth Development Office – Surigao City, the Surigao Youth Convergence, and DepEd Surigao City Division, spearheaded the event through the tireless efforts of 2025 Local Skills Development Director, Raxiey Adolfo. The tournament promised a thrilling display of intellectual prowess and a platform for the next generation of Surigaonon leaders.
The tournament’s opening day was a testament to the power of youth and the potential of Surigao’s future. JCI Surigao North has created a space for these young minds to shine, fostering their development and inspiring them to become agents of positive change. JCI Surigao North held a momentous General Membership Meeting on November 30, 2024 at Maradjaw Events Center, marking a transition of leadership and a commitment to continued service. We gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of our outgoing 2024 LO President, Eric M. Libay, and to welcome our visionary 2025 LO President, Atty. Krystel Grace L. Calderon – Buniel, as she takes the lead. The symbolic passing of the gavel represented a transfer of responsibility, a testament to the dedication and passion that drives our chapter.
As we look forward to a new year of impactful initiatives, we are energized by the leadership of Pres. Kring and her vision for JCI Surigao North. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Pres. Scaling New Heights: Pres. Eric Libay Conquers Mt. Kinabalu, Inspires with JCI Spirit of Growth and Resilience

JCI Surigao North is bursting with pride for our 2024 LO President, Eric M. Libay, who has just conquered Mount Kinabalu, the highest peak in Southeast Asia. Mount Kinabalu is a mountain located in Sabah, Malaysia, on the island of Borneo. Reaching a peak elevation of 4,095 meters (13,438 feet) – twice the height of Mount Apo here in the Philippines! ⛰
Pres. Eric’s achievement is a testament to the JCI spirit of personal growth and pushing boundaries. His determination and resilience inspire us all to strive for greatness, both in our personal lives and in our service to the community. Pres. Eric’s climb embodies the JCI mission of creating positive change in the world. He faced challenges head-on, demonstrating the power of perseverance and the importance of setting ambitious goals. We are confident that Pres. Eric’s experience will further fuel his passion for service and leadership, making him an even more impactful leader in our organization and our community.

JCI Surigao North witnessed the remarkable impact of Debate 101: Class 004 on the participants. Day 2 saw the culmination of their learning as they tackled challenging debate topics with newfound confidence and eloquence. Participants engaged in lively discussions, showcasing the power of debate to foster critical thinking, communication skills, and a sense of community. It was clear that the training program had ignited a spark in these young minds, empowering them to express themselves with clarity and conviction.
The awards ceremony celebrated their achievements, leaving them feeling confident, ready to speak up, and eager to make a difference in their community. Debate 101 Class 004 was more than just a training program; it was a transformative experience that empowered a generation of young leaders in Surigao. JCI Surigao North is proud to have played a role in this impactful initiative.

Debate 101: Class 004 Kicks Off with Surigao’s Bright Young Minds Ready to Speak Up and Lead!

The Batang Surigaonon Youthniversity, in partnership with JCI Surigao North, successfully kicked off the Debate 101: Class 004 with a bang last November 20, 2024. The first day of this intensive two-day program at the Livelihood Training and Productivity Center (LTPC), saw enthusiastic participation from senior high school, junior high school, and college students. The initiative, spearheaded by 2025 LO President Atty. Krystel Grace C. Buniel, aimed to cultivate critical thinking, effective communication, and leadership qualities among Surigao’s youth. Guest Speaker, 2025 Local Skills Development Director Raxiey Adolfo, shared his expertise, guiding participants through interactive sessions focused on the British Parliamentary debate format.
This initial day served as a strong foundation for the upcoming debate challenges planned for Day 2. Expert speakers shared their knowledge and experience, guiding students through interactive exercises and practical applications. The future looks bright for these young debaters, poised to make their voices heard and contribute meaningfully to their community.

NuLab goes to Surigao Day 3

Final Day of nuLab: STEM in Motion Ends on a High Note with Surigao’s Brightest Young Minds!

The final day of the “nuLab: STEM in Motion Campaign” on November 16, 2024, saw the nuLab bus welcoming students from Surigao City National High School and Caraga Regional Science High School. Forty-eight senior high school students eagerly explored advanced STEM modules, including Climate Science, Internet of Things (IoT), Data Science, Environmental Science, Geology, and Weather Science.
These engaging sessions provided students with an exciting look into the world of STEM careers, encouraging them to pursue their interests and contribute to scientific advancements. The nuLab bus, a pioneering project by DOST-SEI, has proven to be an invaluable resource in making science education more accessible and captivating.
Supported by DOST-SEI, DOST-Caraga, the Provincial Government of Surigao del Norte, and JCI Surigao North, the campaign successfully concluded, leaving a profound impact on the students and underscoring the vital importance of STEM education in the region.
